History
West Linn was established as an AVA in 2024, one of the newest of the Willamette sub-AVAs, on the east side of the Willamette River near the city of West Linn. Its distinguishing feature is the basalt of the Boring Lava Field — the largest surface basalt exposure in the northern Willamette Valley — overlain with wind-deposited loess. This volcanic-structured terroir yields Pinot Noir of distinctive minerality and structure, expanding the basaltic register of Willamette Pinot beyond the Chehalem Mountains [1].
