History
The Tualatin Hills AVA was established in 2020, in the northernmost reaches of the Willamette Valley west of Portland. Its defining feature is the Laurelwood series — wind-deposited loess over basalt — a soil found nowhere else in the Willamette. The AVA's moderate climate and distinctive soils yield Pinot Noir of red-fruit perfume, fine structure, and a distinctive minerality [1].
