History

Spring Mountain District was established as an AVA in 1993, encompassing the steep slopes above St. Helena on the western Mayacamas. The district takes its name from the many springs that emerge from the mountain's fractured rock. Planting here dates to the 1870s; Tiburcio Parrott and the Beringer brothers were among the early pioneers. Spring Mountain's Cabernet Sauvignon is prized for its dense color, fine-grained but abundant tannin, and a distinctive dark-chocolate and forest-floor complexity — among the most structured of the Napa mountain wines ^[1].
