History

Mount Veeder was recognized as an AVA in 1993, preserving the character of the Mayacamas' western slopes above the valley. Vines were first planted here in the 1860s, and the mountain's steep, fractured sedimentary soils yield low quantities of intensely flavored fruit. Mount Veeder is distinguished from its mountain neighbors by its sedimentary rather than volcanic geology and its cooler, longer ripening season, producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends of aromatic complexity, bright acidity, and a distinctive mountain spice ^[1].
