History

Russian River's viticulture dates to the 19th century, but its identity as a cool-climate Pinot region emerged in the 1970s as growers recognized the fog's effect ^[1]. The AVA was recognized in 1983 and expanded in 2005 ^[2]. It became a benchmark for New World Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
